The New York City metropolitan area has nine teams in the four major North American professional sports leagues, each of which also has its headquarters in the city. Some of these teams are very popular like the New York Yankees due to their 27 championships, others like the New York Red bulls (0 championships) and the New Yorks Knicks (2 championships) are less popular. Thierry Henry is one of the best soccer players in the world and has recently signed a contract with the New York Red Bulls. Also Carmelo Anthony is a one of the premiere basketball player in the NBA and has joined the Knicks in the beginning of 2011.
